Taiyuan Musical Notes

On June 29, 2022, the People's Daily App released the "2022 National Depression Blue Book," stating that currently 95 million depression patients lives in China, and about 280,000 people commit suicide every year, of which 40% suffer from depression. Depression has clearly become a serious public health issue. Unfortunately, I suffer from major depressive disorder and have used medication for many years. In September 2020, when I was filming my first movie Faraway, I accidentally met Ms. Wang Yunyi, a female singer who lives in seclusion in Taiyuan. She also suffers from major depressive disorder, and her condition has caused serious damages to her music career and daily life. We, two people sharing the same disease, agreed to use a movie to do three things: start a dialogue, directly confront our own mental confusion reservation, and try to find ways to save ourselves. Taiyuan Musical Notes is my second film and part of a project I initiated, the "Creation and Research Project about Folklore Oral Literature Based on Daily Life."
